First introduced in 1989, the Gold Philharmonic series is one of the most popular and sought-after gold coins on the bullion market.
Until 2003 the coin was offered in two different sizes (1 oz and ¼ oz) denominated in Austrian schillings, when it was changed to Euros. Today the series has five different sizes and denominations (1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, 1/10 oz and 1/25 oz; € 100, € 50, €25, €10 and €4 respectively).

The obverse (front side) features a harmonious montage of stringed instruments including a harp, violins, a string bass, and cellos.

The reverse (back side) bears the image of the "Great Organ" which resides in Vienna's "Golden Hall" where the Orchestra performs.
