The Pitsco 52536 Basswood QuakePak Kit provides students in grades 6-12 a hands-on activity to design and build a model earthquake-proof tower that demonstrates the scientific concepts of earthquake engineering, structural forces, and geometry, and it includes basswood strips, glue, and grid paper to allow students to plan and draw a tower design. The kit is designed to serve students working in pairs. The kit includes 3/32 x 3/32 x 24-inch basswood strips for construction. Basswood is lightweight and strong, offers cutting ease, and has consistent density for building model structures. The QuakePak Kit also provides Pitsco Structures Glue and empty individual glue bottles with caps, 1/8-inch grid paper, wood foundation blocks, wood tower block bases, and student instruction guides. The glue is colored to help students locate and evaluate the strength of joints. Students can test the towers for quake resistance using Pitsco 52785 Steel Load Plates on the Pitsco 30718 EQs Tremor Table (both sold separately). The kit includes a handbook, Earthquake Engineering: EQs Project Book, for an introduction to earthquake engineering. The Basswood QuakePak Kit reinforces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts as students design, build, and test a model tower for earthquake resistance. A model tower kit is typically used in an educational setting to demonstrate structural engineering and design.

Construction requires a hobby knife or the Pitsco 18818 Timber Cutter, foam board, structure pins, and waxed paper (all sold separately).
